Abstract

The social work profession plays a crucial role in addressing various social issues and promoting the well-being of individuals, families, and communities in Canada. Over forty post-secondary institutions across the country offer accredited bachelor's (BSW) or master's (MSW) programs, with seven of them focusing on Indigenous social work programs based on First Nations spirituality, knowledge, and approaches. After completing their bachelor's degree, future social work professionals must obtain a license or certificate to practice in Canada. The requirements for obtaining a license vary by province and territory. Social workers have a broad range of professional activities and can work in various settings such as hospitals, schools, mental health clinics, social service agencies, and others. Social workers also play a vital role in Indigenous communities by addressing unique challenges associated with cultural preservation, education, health care, and social welfare while respecting the traditions and values of the Indigenous population. The algorithm for obtaining the profession of social worker in Canada is analyzed. In particular, it is determined that the following steps should be taken: obtain a bachelor's degree in social work, during your studies engage in volunteer activities in the social sphere; pass an exam in an organization responsible for training social workers in the province where you are going to work and obtain a license or certificate; with the beginning of a professional career, you need to join a professional organization such as the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW); to maintain a license, constantly develop professionally, participate in conferences, and attend conferences. It is concluded that the relevance of the social work profession in Canada is emphasized by the country's commitment to social justice, human rights, and the well-being of its citizens. Social workers are crucial in promoting social change, equity, and inclusiveness in Canadian society.
