IDEOLOGICAL AND MENTAL PECULIARITIES OF TRADITIONAL UKRAINIAN EMBROIDERY

Abstract

The current state of Ukrainian society is characterized by the growth of ethnic consciousness and an increased interest in their own culture and cultural heritage. Embroidery, as one of the oldest forms of Ukrainian ethnic culture, reflects the ethnic memory, historical experience and spiritual values of the people. The purpose of the article is to analyze the ideological and mental features of Ukrainian embroidery, to reveal its significance in the context of the formation of the ethnic identity of the Ukrainian people. The methodology of the research includes a scientific-theoretical approach to studying the terms mentioned above, along with methods of analysis and synthesis This goal is accomplished by addressing the following tasks: 1) to reveal the essence and concept of mentality as a special way of thinking, habits and perceptions of people; 2) to study the technology and symbolism of embroidery as a process of abstraction and creation of a complex abstract-sign system of reality reflection; 3) to determine the features of ethnic markers of ornaments as a cultural and historical phenomenon at different stages of ethnic development and the formation of their own symbolic systems. Scientific novelty. The article reveals the symbolic significance of Ukrainian embroidery as a carrier of ethnic mentality, reflecting deep archetypes and cultural codes formed under the influence of historical heritage and interaction with the environment. In conclusion, the article emphasizes that folk arts and crafts are a carrier of traditions and preserve archetypes that cover mythological, historical, and aesthetic aspects. It expresses the collective consciousness and mentality of the people, demonstrating their ethnic, psychological and social characteristics through artistic images. The symbolism embedded in the ornaments reflects the cultural values of the people and provides a link between the past and the present. The analysis of embroidery symbolism helps to reveal secret symbols and codes of Ukrainian mentality.
